Baskets, Poison Green & Randomness...

it's gloomy outside and the kids are napping. i've finished half of the blocks needed for masyn's quilt and layed them out on the bed with the green to see what it will look like...
{i had thought about making the blocks 8" instead of the 6 1/2", but didn't and i'm happy i didn't}

with so much to do, i am having trouble beginning anything. the laundry is going, the sewing room is a disaster, i really should load a quilt and picking up after nolan, well that's just a given. but as i sit here and ponder what to do next i find myself thinking about the newest book i bought {a quilting book, of course} it's titled 'gone to texas' and i love it! in it are tidbits of journal entries from a pioneer woman whose quilts are reproduced in this book. reading her entries makes me think...
i was born in the wrong era. although i do enjoy many of the same pleasures as she did, i do wish we lived in simpler times.
hard times, no doubt but it was a different hard. a hard that made you strong and grateful for the simplest of things.

i think about the pioneers who gave so much to have what we would consider so little.
i'm grateful for the little things. i'm grateful for my family and for my husband who works so hard. i'm grateful for the friends that teach me so much and for the many opportunities we are given to make a difference in someone's life.

i pray that my children will be strong and hard working and will grow up to appreciate the simpler things.

i think i'll stitch alittle tonight, but right now the laundry is calling.
some things never change...

Hi Julie,
Great to have found your blog. You do such lovely work:)
I wonder would you mind telling me what the quilt is called, in your last pic? I'm guessing it is a Cheri Payne? What background fabric did you use? It looks delish!! Thanks for sharing,

Blessings, Shazy x

I long for simpler times too and often feel I was born in the wrong era, as well. Your post was incredibly insightful - thank you for sharing!

Your stitching project in your hoop is wonderful. :-)
