A W.I.L.I.N.G. project & getting organized

since moving into a much larger house, i've been a bit overwhelmed with the daily tasks.
i was inspired by a blog post to revisit fly lady and try to regain control of my days and the constant struggle to maintain an imperfect home. i'm not striving for perfection, rather...sanity!

so i broke out my notebook, gave it a little face lift
and organized, organized, organized.

in the meantime, i didn't get any of the things done that should have been done.
but that's ok. i've got my routine down, and i feel good.

if your interested in getting your home in order, check out fly lady's website.
i ordered the $12 kit and was happy i did.
i changed my tabs a bit to fit with our family. if you have any other questions, just ask.

What'cha Doin' Wednesday

another school year has past and it was time to update my 'mom' book. a couple years ago a very organized and creative friend gave this organizing tip. if your like me, you always have a ton of papers and calendars and stuff that forms great piles, but doesn't really have a place. my mom book has remedied all that. in fact, bob has one too, for all his receipts and misc. stuff that is always lying around.

inside my book i have dividers for myself, each of the kids, family and friends and a misc. category. i use the pocket dividers and cd holders come in handy.

i use business card holders to store small pieces of papers like bob's dress shirt tag (i can never remember the size) and little notes like this one from the little princess.

in each of the pockets of the kids category i have their immunization record, birth certificate, etc.

in the family and friends category, i keep announcements and notes that i don't want to lose.

in the kids section, i put the papers from that school year, such as, report cards, awards, notes, drawings, pictures, etc. and at the end of the year i transfer it into it's own folder. since i can't keep up with the scrapbooks, this is the next best thing. this is the little princess's preschool folder. i also keep calendars, phone lists, etc. in there for easy access and so i don't lose it.

it works for us, maybe this will work for you.
i also got this wall hanging quilted for my cousin.
and i got this yard sale find loaded for mardi.

i'll quilt it tomorrow as soon as i run to la mesa for more thread...

bob got done with work early and he and the baby worked on preparing the side of the yard for our square foot garden. he moved the gate back to make more room and cleared the disaster that had made itself at home there.
the little princess made soup. doesn't it look yummy!

i took pictures
and nancy watched from the sewing room...
i hope you had a great day!

What 'cha Doin' Wednesday

hi everyone! what'cha doin???
(before i get started i want to let you know that i started this post at almost 3pm today
and it is now almost 10pm as i am finishing it up)

today, i've been working on something that i'll show you on moday.
can't tell, it's a secret!!!
i'm also cooking pot pies and baking banana bread today.
a gal from church just brought home a baby girl and tonights my night to bring dinner.

do you pass on those opportunities to bring dinner to someone or have others for dinner because your not a "cook" or because you just don't have a recipe your comfortable making?

i have a couple great ones that i'll share that will make you jump at the chance.

stay tuned...

well...i'm STILL working on organizing my sewing room. here's what i've got so far. i will say that as far as my fabric goes, i'm pretty darn organized, it's all the other stuff that i have a problem with.

here's the before picture...

and here's the after...look mom, it's clean!!!

(now if i can just keep it this way!!! and NO i didn't just throw it behind me...
that was the home tour!!!)
remember the picture i showed you of neta's sewing basket...

here's my attempt. i need to make the cute cover for the spray bottle, then i think it will look cute. for now i'm just happy to everything in one place and functional.

i also covered this dingy, well used ironing/cutting mat. how cute is the darn iron!!! it's real. lois ann gave it to the little princess (thus, no cord)

and while i was in the organizing mode. neta had yet another great idea for the 12 x12 plastic bins from michaels. they are on sale right now for 40% off. i bought a couple to organize my current class project and my blocks of the month.

and i also found this basket in one of my closets and i put it to good use. my long arm supplies are now in one easy to find place.

well that's all folks...

i've got to go get some laundry done!!!

SERIOUSLY, i hear it beeping at me...

My Sister Caught the Bug...

the organizing bug, that is!

(did anyone say ribbon???)

she is to ribbon and paper, what i am to fabric.
she had so much that is became a BIG problem so she decided to put them on a ribbon holder.
did i mention that with some help, she made it...
yep, impressive.
and lucky me, because she made one for me, too! thanks, suz!!!
we haven't decided what color to paint them so for now they are white.
how cute is this little stand that she just whipped up!
(ummm, i think i need one of these, too)

oh & p.s. here's a sneak peek of something fun to come...

happy organizing!!!

I've Been Inspired...

by so many of you organized bloggers!
my family thanks you!!!

i've decided to tackle my sewing room first.
in it are piles of quilting magazines.
they date back to 1998. yikes!!!

i started by going through each one and pulling the projects that i like out.
(it's taken days!!!)

from all the magazines came all these patterns that i put in sheet protectors.

once i had them in sheet protectors, i organized them into binders.
Whew!!! that took WAY too long...but i'm thrilled to have it done.
one project down, how many to go???
don't ask, i'll keep you posted. (get it!)
take care!

The Block of the Month Class

went great today!
i always make a little something for my class...
today, i made the mini banana loaves. yum!

but the real treat was all mine...

neta, a friend and student in today's class, absolutely inspired me.
i was so excited to see her set-up, i knew i would have to show all of you.
AHHH! i LOVE it!

first, check out the stinkin' cute pin cushion. i came right home and ordered the pattern from here. (they sell the kit, too) and she even made covers for her spray bottles (for starch). i can't even tell you how thrilled i was to find out that i could go here for the tutorial!
if that weren't enough, check out her class set-up.
even the banana bread matched. and look at the cute green jar for her starch.
oh my gosh i was in heaven!!!
i had to take a picture of her sewing basket. i want mine to look like that!!!
even the toothpicks are in a light pink container.
that's it. she's my hero!

here's some of the different versions of the bunny hill blocks.
this one is neta's, it's perfect!

and here's nancy's. i couldn't believe that she was able to center the pattern exactly on the basket handle. very impressive.

and this one is cheryl's. love the basket, cheryl...

anita did hers in civil war fabric. i think i'm going to have to make another set in the civil war. i can give the first set to my sister. thanks for a great day everyone. LOVED it!
