Happy Birthday Puter!!!

(an emotional me will attempt to get through this post...)

Holy Cow, I simply can not believe that you are 20 years old!
I swear that I'm only 30, so that's simply not possible!!!
Thank the GOOD Lord above for great jeans! (the biological kind)

i knew when i was pregnant with you that life would definetly have it's challenges,
i also knew that you were my angel and we'd make it through and with a lot of love and grace,
we did!
you brought meaning and purpose to my life.
as a beautiful child you brought joy to so many of us and today,
as a beautiful woman you continue to do the same.
you were fabulous then and your fabulous now.
i am proud of you and your strength. i have no doubt that you will accomplish your goals.

this is going to be a great year for you,
enjoy it, live it, love it and embrace it.
happy, happy birthday!
with so much love,
mom

Happy Labor Day!!!

here are a few interesting facts about labor day.

10,000 workers took an unpaid holiday to march in the first Labor Day parade.

Labor Day was founded when many in America worked 16-hour days in harsh work environments.

“No white after Labor Day” was the old-fashioned style rule. Today’s fashion rules now shy away from this outdated policy.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that as of May 2009, there were over 155 million people, age 16 and older, in the U.S. labor force.

Labor Day celebrations have shifted from parades and demonstrations to speeches and picnics.

Labor Day in now celebrated, not only in the United States, but also in Canada and other industrialized nations.

The American labor force today is a far cry for where it began in the 1800s. Although an eight hour work day and a minimum wage may seem standard today, this was not so when Labor Day was first celebrated.

In 1938, Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act making the minimum wage $0.25 an hour and a maximum of 44 hours in a workweek. The Act has been revised multiple times, eventually raising the minimum wage and cutting down workweeks.

In 1962, the Work Hours Act provided time and a half pay for days worked over eight hours or weeks worked over 40 hours.

It is the hope of many that america's currently unemployed workers will once again find employment in this tough economic environment.
a working america is a strong america.
teach the children to work hard and to find pride in their work and great things will come from it!

The Quilt Sampler

magazine is in stores and i LOVE it!!!
i have every single one dating back 10 years at least. they are chock full of inspiration.
one of my most FaVorItE quilt shops ever is featured and on the cover!
i must say, sheryl and linda's quilt is my favorite and i can't wait to add it to the many un-finished projects. (i'm keeping it real) although, i really, really like this one so who knows, maybe i'll actually get it done.
if you, too, would like to make this wonderful thing go on over to the shops blog and order the kit.

Who Needs Tools

when you have prayer!
yesterday our kitchen sink backed up. i HATE it when that happens!
bob went to his truck, got the tools he needed to make the tools he needed (he's mac gvyer)
after some time and no results he called bub to go outside.
(i should tell you that the kids were impatiently  patiently waiting to go to nana's pool this whole time and it was looking like their plans were going to fall through)
as bub went outside, i noticed that the water began draining and called to him and bob that it was fixed!!!
the little princess replied, "that's because i said a prayer.  we don't need daddy's tools. all we needed to do was pray."
we smiled.  smart girl with a strong testimony, the joys in life!
now...if she could've done something about the spa, bub would've been happier!
